What are the possible reasons for RTO?

There are several reasons why a shipment may be marked as RTO:

  1. Non-Delivery: The courier or delivery service provider attempted to deliver the package to the recipient's address but was unable to do so. This can occur if the recipient was not available at the time of delivery, if the address was incorrect or incomplete, or if the recipient refused to accept the package.

  2. Failed Delivery Attempts: The courier made multiple attempts to deliver the package but was unsuccessful in reaching the recipient. After a certain number of failed delivery attempts, the package is typically marked as RTO and returned to the sender.

  3. Address Issues: If the address provided by the sender or recipient is incorrect, incomplete, or inaccessible, the package may be deemed undeliverable and returned to the origin.

  4. Customs Clearance Issues: In international shipments, if the package encounters difficulties with customs clearance, such as missing or incorrect documentation, unpaid duties or taxes, or restricted items, it may be returned to the sender as an RTO.

  5. Recipient Request: In some cases, the recipient may request the shipment to be returned to the sender for various reasons, such as change of address, change in delivery preference, or simply not wanting the package anymore.
